Muslim academic criticises faceless Islamic ‘Deeni Doll’ for girls

A new Islamic doll with no facial features has been criticised by a scholar as ‘silly’.

The ‘Deeni Doll’ – a model of a female companion of Mohammed – has no eyes, nose or mouth in a bid to comply with strict Islamic rules governing the depiction of faces.

But professor Fawaz Gerges, who specialises in Muslim societies at the London School of Economics, said the doll would not appeal to the majority of Muslims.

‘The doll is a gimmick, an ultra-conservative interpretation,’ he told Mail Online.

He added: ‘It is a very isolated phenomenon and with all due respect I imagine it would only appeal to a very tiny group.’
