Elbert Guillory, a black Louisiana state senator who became a conservative celebrity and viral YouTube star last year when he switched from Democrat to Republican, will be making three days of campaign appearances next month for Jay Bonner, the long shot Republican challenger to U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar.

GuilloryGuillory, whose “Why I Am A Republican” video has more than 1.1 million views on YouTube, is in at least his second stint with the GOP.

According to Louisiana secretary of state records, Guillory won a 2003 election to the state’s Republican Central Committee. He switched his registration from Republican to Democrat in December 2006 and won a March 2007 special election to state House as a Democrat, then won elections to the state Senate as a Democrat in 2009 and 2011.
