ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Friday morning, Ferguson police chief Tom Jackson released the name of the Ferguson officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown. His name is Darren Wilson, a six-year veteran of the Ferguson police force.
But a St. Louis City sergeant named Darren Wilson was quickly mistaken on social media to be the officer who shot Brown.
St. Louis City Sgt. Darren Wilson is the president of the Ethical Society of Police and has been with the St. Louis Police Department since 1996.
St. Louis City Police say public outcry over Brown’s death and the assumption that the city’s Darren Wilson was involved has promoted concern for their officer’s safety.
St. Louis City’s Sgt. Wilson did respond to rumors that he was the officer involved.
He posted it to his Facbeook Page Friday morning.
