Lafayette, LA: One Killed in Stabbing; Two Arrested for Alleged Retaliation Shooting

A Lafayette man is dead following a stabbing at a barber shop. The incident took place around 8:00 Thursday night in the 1100 block of 12th Street. Witnesses say the victim, 28-year-old Damien Watkins, and the unnamed suspect got into an argument. The suspect allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed Watkins in the chest. Watkins was rushed to a local hospital where he later died.

Investigators are currently looking for the suspect.

Later that night, police responded to gunfire near the corner of Magnolia Street and Pinhook Road. Officers say they saw a car speeding away from the area. Two of the people in the car, Trinity Kilchrist and Nicholas Richard, were arrested and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm. Another suspect fled the scene. Police say Kilchrist and Richard were acting in retaliation to Watkins’ death. No one was injured in the shooting.
