NEW IBERIA, LA (NBC33) — A man allegedly threw a homemade explosive at his neighbor during an argument. What investigators believe, however, is that the man intended to take things even further.
“When we searched his residence, he had several incendiary devices in his home,” Cpt. Ryan Turner, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, explained. “We believe his intent was to set his neighbors house on fire using those devices.”
The incident started at roughly 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7 at a home located on Cherokee Street in New Iberia. Deputies were called to the scene after a man called 911 claiming that his neighbor threw a bomb at him and threatened to set his house on fire.
Deputies learned that the suspect, Thadeus Hurst (DOB 09/24/ 1986 of 1101 Cherokee Street, New Iberia), threw the incendiary device at his neighbor while the two were having a verbal altercation. The suspect then threatened to throw an incendiary device inside of the victim’s residence.
Deputies arrived on scene and placed Hurst under arrest. Deputies were assisted by the Louisiana State Police Haz-Mat Division.
