Metairie, LA: Man sues Macy’s after walking face first into glass display

GRETNA – A North Carolina man is suing a national retailer after allegedly walking face first into a clear glass display and injuring himself.

Ba Tran filed suit against Macy’s Corporate Services Inc. and Macy’s in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Tran claims he was shopping at the Macy’s located at 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie when he walked face first into a heavy glass display in the middle of the aisle and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges that the display was made of clear glass and it was difficult to see. He claims he suffered a gash to his right eyebrow, which required stitches, and neck and back injuries.

Metairie man who used bogus court order to kick his ex-girlfriend out of her home sentenced to 20 years in prison as career criminal

A Metairie man convicted of using an ill-gotten court order to kick his ex-girlfriend out of her house so he could sell her belongings in garage sales saw his prison sentence double Monday under Louisiana’s habitual offender law. Vincent Castillo, 43, will serve 20 years in prison, a judge ordered in finding that Castillo is a twice-convicted felon.

Castillo was convicted of attempted extortion in 2000 and of simple burglary on Jan. 24. The latter case involved his lying to a district judge in Jefferson Parish to get what otherwise was a perfectly legal court order barring his ex-girlfriend Lea Fink from going to her home.

Searchers locate body of truck driver who plunged from Lake Pontchartrain Causeway

The driver of a truck that plunged from the Lake [Pontchartrain] Causeway into the water Wednesday evening was found Friday morning, authorities said. The driver was identified as Christopher Sergeant, 39, of New Orleans.

His body was found by searchers from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Friday morning, near the site where the truck was located in the lake on Thursday. Sergeant was driving a dump truck southbound Wednesday around 5 p.m. when his truck was reported to have taken out several sections of guardrail and gone over the side of the bridge around 4.5 miles from the Metairie end of the span.

Missing Metairie woman found, JPSO says

Danielle Sanchez, 33, was found safe in New Orleans, Col. John Fortunato said.

Sanchez was last seen wearing a pink and red jacket with a cross depicted on the back and blue jeans.

Police described Sanchez as Caucasian, standing 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 130 to 140 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and multiple tattoos on her body.

The JPSO noted that Sanchez has a flower tattoo with leaves on her left shoulder.

Metairie couple booked with burglarizing homes with 2-year-old in tow | NOLA.com

Authorities say a couple who appeared to be out for an afternoon stroll with a toddler was actually burglarizing homes in a Metairie neighborhood. Justin Melgar and Brittney Dashner, both 22 and from Metairie, were arrested Wednesday after their constitutional raised the suspicion of a resident, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office arrest and incident reports.
