Visitation for Lockhart takes place starting at 5 p.m. at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m.

Lockhart is survived by her parents, siblings and a young daughter.The family requests donations in her memory be made at any Hancock Bank or Whitney Bank branches.

A Tangipahoa Parish judge late Tuesday increased bond to $1 million for a woman named as a suspect in the murder and dismemberment of 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart.

The increase in bond comes one day after prosecutors filed a new felony charge of harboring a sex offender against 28-year-old Margaret Sanchez. Judge Brenda Hicks made the change.

Terry Speaks has a substantial criminal history

Terry Speaks, a suspect in the recent murder and dismemberment of 22-year-old exotic dancerJaren Lockhart, has a substantial criminal history, including convictions for having sex with a 14-year-old, assaulting a woman and domestic violence, records show. The convictions all occurred in Surry County, N.C. The most recent was the sex offense, of which Speaks was found guilty in 2003, when he was 31.

The violent crimes appear to have involved female family members, though the court documents do not make clear how the victims are related to Speaks.

Earlier this year, a grand jury in North Carolina indicted Speaks for failing to register as a sex offender as a result of his 2003 conviction. That charge landed him in front of a federal magistrate judge in New Orleans on Friday, who ordered him transferred to North Carolina for arraignment.

Glenn Grannan, chief investigator for the Hancock County, Miss., sheriff’s office, the lead agency investigating Lockhart’s death, said he does not believe Speaks’ transfer to North Carolina will be immediate. Nor does he believe Speaks’ move will affect Hancock County’s investigation into Lockhart’s death.

“If we charge him with anything, we’ll just put him on a plane and fly him down to Mississippi,” Grannan said.

Grannan said both Speaks and Sanchez have remained silent during questioning.

Grannan said Hancock County officials on Friday conducted tests using sonar equipment off the coast of Long Beach, Miss. They were looking for the hunting knife they believe was used to stab Lockhart in her chest and kill her.

“We knew the victim suffered a chest wound with some sort of hunting knife, so we were looking for something similar,” Grannan said. “All we found was a crab trap.”

Deputy Chief Don Bass with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said they are checking nearby businesses along the Mississippi coast in an attempt to get a break in the case.

Sanchez did not waive extradition, which means she will fight to avoid being brought to Mississippi where investigators wish to question her.

Speaks was arrested and charged with failing to register as a sex offender after he was convicted of a sex crime involving a juvenile in North Carolina in 2003. He remains in the St. Tammany Parish Jail until his scheduled court appearance on Friday morning.

“It’s been killing me the last few days,” said Donna Lockhart, the victim’s mother.

A mother is shaken to her core and a father is numb after living through the unthinkable for any parent: the gruesome death of a daughter. Lockhart’s dismembered body started washing ashore late last week on several Mississippi beaches.

“Everybody says be strong, but it’s hard to be strong,” Donna added.

“It’s like someone just ripped your heart out of your body, you know,” explained Pete Singer, the victim’s father. “You just go numb. You go dead on the inside.”

Her brother, Lance, who Lockhart lovingly called “Bubba,” said the worst part for him is he couldn’t be there to protect his little sister like he’s done all his life.

“Someone bothered her, she would always say, ‘Bubba, come help me,’” Lance Lockhart said. “You want to know what’s running through my head? That’s running through my head. ‘Bubba, help me,’ and I ain’t there.”

NEW ORLEANS – A surveillance or security video shows murder victim Jaren Lockhart with Margaret Sanchez and Terry Speaks in Mississippi at a point in time after a video showed the three of them leaving a Bourbon Street strip club together, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Word of the new video by the sheriff’s office comes as the investigation into the murder of Lockhart, a New Orleans woman whose body parts were found on Mississippi beaches, continued Thursday with a court appearance by Sanchez, one of two people described as a suspect in the case.

The new video hasn’t been released yet.

Man linked to Lockhart killing has lengthy record | New Orleans – WDSU Home.

Police said the arrested woman is Margaret Sanchez, who is 28 years old.

Police said the man has used many aliases across the country. He was arrested under the name of Terry Speaks. He is 39-years-old.

Speaks was booked on charges of resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight, aggravated assault and three warrants in other jurisdictions.

WDSU has learned that Speaks has a history that includes sex crimes. According to authorities in North Carolina, Speaks has sometimes called himself Chris or Christopher. Also in North Carolina, Speaks was convicted on sex offender charges nearly 10 years ago and was registered in the state’s sex offender database.

Sheriff’s deputies take murder investigation to New Orleans

Limbs, head of missing New Orleans woman recovered

GULFPORT, Miss. -

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has identified the dismembered body found on Mississippi beaches as that of a missing New Orleans woman.

“We have identified her as the missing woman from New Orleans [Jaren Lockhart] based on the recovered limbs,” Glenn Grannan, Chief Investigator, said. “A limb was discovered by a fisherman this morning. We mobilized a search effort with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and the Hancock County Sheriff very quickly. During the search we recovered the additional limbs as well as the head.”

The torso of Jaren Lockhart was first discovered on the Mississippi beach in Bay St. Louis on Thursday by a cleaning crew.

The head, arms and legs had been removed from the body and there were stab wounds to the chest.

Preliminary forensics revealed that the limbs had been intentionally removed and that the torso washed ashore.

‘We know she made it to work and left in the early morning hours,’ Grannan said.

The mother of a three-year-old girl was last seen leaving a motel on Tulane Avenue in New Orleans

He said there is some surveillance video showing her leaving the club. He would not go into detail about who she left with.

Lockhart’s stabbed torso turned up in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, on Thursday followed by the discovery of her head and part of her legs two days later
