HOUSTON (CBS Houston) Twelve workers were injured in a fire at a refinery Wednesday. The fire took place at the ExxonMobil refinery in Beaumont.
According to company officials, at around 10:30am Wednesday, the ExxonMobil Beaumont Refinery experienced a fire within its process unit that was shut down for maintenance.
Company officials further stated that the blaze was brought under control and had been extinguished.
Twelve contract employees suffered injuries as a result of the fire, while six of those workers were transported to hospitals for further medical treatment and evaluation. Additional reports state that three of the victims suffered severe burns.
With all employees and contractors working in the area having been accounted for, it is not clear what caused the blaze; officials continue their investigation.
