Alexandria has been adding bicycle lanes. As a rider myself I applaud them. I know it’s a headache for some businesses who have lost some convenient parking spots, but I think the good outweighs the bad. Now if Pineville would just get on board to doing something similar I would be ecstatic.

Tulane University says people are taking advantage of new bike lanes in New Orleans.
On South Carrollton Avenue, for example, Tulane researchers say more than three-times as many people bicycled there after one-mile bike lanes were added.
The study focusses on the amount of bicycle traffic during a ten-day period in September 2009 versus the same time period a year later, after the lanes were added.
Researchers also say the lanes encourage people to travel in the proper direction rather than against traffic.
