New Orleans, LA: Crook takes woman’s SUV with her dog “Skeeter” inside

NEW ORLEANS —

New Orleans police said a woman was attacked and carjacked, and now she is desperately searching for her dog, which was inside her vehicle when it was stolen.

Meg Hall said a man grabbed and hit her Tuesday about 10:30 p.m., as she was getting into her vehicle in the 2300 block of Burdette Street.

Hall and her family are scouring the neighborhood, asking anyone who may have seen Skeeter to speak up.

“(Skeeter) is a nervous, fragile dog,” Hall said. “He’s a Chihuahua/Jack Russell terrier mix, 8 pounds, 11 years old and going to be really scared.”

Hall said her  [TAN] 2000 Lincoln Navigator has NOLA bumper stickers on it. Anyone who sees it or Skeeter can contact Hall on her Facebook page or call police.

Addis, LA: Little Orphan Annie stopped for speeding

ADDIS, LA (WAFB) -

Little Orphan Annie got a lucky break during a Halloween traffic stop in south Louisiana.

A police officer in the town of Addis stopped a driver for speeding along Louisiana Highway One. The woman driving the speeding vehicle got out dressed as Little Orphan Annie. The driver was on her way to a costume contest at work, according to Addis Police Chief Ricky Anderson.

“She was doing 62 in a 45 mile-an-hour zone,” said Chief Anderson. “My officer was laughing so hard he did not ticket her.”

Anderson says the officer sent Annie along her way with a promise from her that she’d slow down and he would not have to stop her again “tomorrow”.

St. Bernard Parish, LA: Man found inside burning car was murdered, authorities say

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified the man found dead inside a burning car Tuesday night as Christopher Campbell, who worked at an automobile body shop and had a passion for working on cars and racing them. Campbell, 28, of Violet, was found inside a burning Ford Mustang on the Louisiana 46 Extension, near the junction of the Florissant/Delacroix highways, authorities said.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday, but the Sheriff’s Office has not released a cause of death. Nonetheless, the death is being handled as a homicide.

“We’re absolutely investigating this as a homicide,” Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann said.

A passerby alerted the Sheriff’s Office to the burning vehicle on Tuesday about 11 p.m. A deputy in the area reported to the scene. Firefighters put out the blaze and discovered the badly burned body of a man inside the 2004 Mustang.

ASCENSION PARISH,LA: Faucet water found flamable in Napoleonville man’s home

ASCENSION PARISH,LA (NBC33) — Imagine going to grab a glass of water only to find out what’s brewing inside the cup could burst into flames.

“If I can light the water in my faucet something is wrong,” said Napoleonville resident Ronald Pate.

Pate lives four miles away from a giant sinkhole in Bayou Corne. He says ever since the hole formed he’s noticed something extra in the water.

“I noticed more bubbles in the water,” said Pate. “I mean it wasn’t like that before.”

Pate’s water comes from a private well on his property. He says after heard about what happened in Bayou Corne, he called in the Department of Environmental Quality to help figure out what’s going on. The DEQ checked inside Pate’s water shed and found increased levels of methane gas.

“Methane producing micro biological activity occurs near shallow aquifers that may not be suitable for drinking water use,” said Chris Piehler with the DEQ.

Piehler says pate’s water problem is not connected with the Bayou Corne situation. Piehler says it’s not unusual for shallow water aquifers in Louisiana to contain methane.

“He just happened to have stuck a well into the water and is pulling water out of the ground in a very natural state and it has methane gas in it,” said Piehler.

Pate says after hearing the test results he doesn’t know what to believe, because gas in the water shouldn’t happen.

“I don’t think it’s natural if you got enough methane to come out in your water to be safe, if you can light it like that,” said Pate.
