PROVENCAL, LA: Man accused of killing his mother

PROVENCAL, La. — Natchitoches deputies have arrested a Provencal man and charged him with killing his mother.

The sheriff’s office says they received a call Thursday night to Willie Banes Road after family members reported 55-year-old Phyllis McMahon missing.

According to deputies, her son, 21-year-old James McMahon, told family that he couldn’t find his mother.  That’s when they called for help.

Once deputies got there, they began a search and found her body in a neighbor’s pond.

Monroe, LA: Miss Louisiana Swimsuit Competition

Contestants heading into final night

Friday night marked the conclusion of preliminaries for the Miss Louisiana 2012 Pageant, with each of the 36 contestants hoping she has what it takes to bring home the crown at the end of the competition Saturday night at the W.L. “Jack” Howard Theatre in Monroe.

Miss Shreveport Carley McCord won the lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit competition, while Miss Greater Baton Rouge Megan Miller won the talent honors.

Miller won the talent honors for her singing performance of the song “Angels.”

The Children’s Miracle Maker Award was also given to Miss Louisiana Watermelon Festival Jaden Leach for being the contestant who raised the most money for the Children’s Miracle Network, the national platform that Miss America endorses.

Saturday is when the competition will really heat up, said Darris Waren, vice president of the Miss Louisiana Organization. The contestants will be rehearsing most of the day leading up to the pageant that night.

“The preliminaries and production has been very exciting,” Waren said. “You can always feel the tension and excitement building as the week progresses.”

The contestants have been working “nonstop” since their arrival in Monroe on Monday, which is not something that’s going to change when one of them is crowned Miss Louisiana 2012, Waren said.

Obama Reminds Himself That He Violated The Constitution

Cheneyville, LA: Confirmed, Bones are from a cemetery

The crew called the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office. By Saturday morning, detectives were in the field working on what appeared to be a crime scene.

“We were actually digging,” said Major Jasper Bay with RPSO. ”And, we already had parts of the skeleton exposed. So, we were digging to preserve that particular skeleton.”

By initial accounts, it looked suspicious.

“From looking at it from my observation, we though it was just a dump site where someone dumped a body,” said Cheneyville Mayor Reginald Allen.

But then, detectives made another find – another body buried in the ditch.

“What we realized is that there’s a whole grave here or there’s a cemetery here of bodies,” said Major Bay. ”And, the further we looked, the more evidence that we found of that. So, it was determined that this is a grave yard.”

Unmarked graves in an unknown cemetery. Now, the bones will be sent off to an LSU lab for testing.

And as detectives await results, Ryan says this might be the most interesting find in Cheneyville that he can remember.

“Especially here in Cheneyville,” he said. ”Hardly ever find anything.”

According to detectives and to the mayor, the cemetery might be an old Civil War or slave plot. The official answer as to where the bones came from will come in the next few weeks after anthropologists complete testing.

Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives spent Saturday morning in an irrigation ditch in Cheneyville looking for more bones from remains they found Friday night.

RPSO received a call Friday around 5:30 about possible human skeletal remains on a farm property on Bayou Road.

Deputies say workers on the property discovered it while working in the field.

Detectives say they’re not sure if it’s a man or a woman yet, or how long the remains have been there. So, they called in back-up from a local forensic team.

“What we’re doing right now is excavating the area,” said Major Jasper Bay of RPSO. ”We have a forensic team from LSU forensic anthropologists here. Right now we’re just doing a dig and an excavation.”

House Democrats slip on crazy pants: Fundraising email warns of Kochs' 'secret gathering of billionaires'; Update: Koch statement responds to leftist attacks

Reblogged from Twitchy:

Uh oh. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has finally gone full conspiracy kook.

The official campaign arm of the House Democrats has flirted with Koch Brothers paranoia before. But today's DCCC fundraising email reportedly reads like Roseanne Barr's diary, minus the sanity.

Trilateral burgers and chemtrail chicken sandwiches for everyone!

Imagine the embarrassment if the National Republican Congressional Committee sent an email blast about President Obama's birth certificate.

Viral vigilantism, Tony Hawk style

Reblogged from This Just In:

If you’re going to steal a skateboard, don’t steal it from Tony Hawk.

The pro skater called out a couple of criminals yesterday by posting images from his home’s security camera on Instagram after it captured them stealing a skateboard from his car.

“To the a**holes that broke into my car & stole Calvin's skateboard: return it or your video goes ‘viral’ as in ‘to the police,’” Hawk wrote on the photo sharing app.
