Whether Brent Crawford has captured the world's largest alligator gar will never be known -- his scale bottomed out emphatically at 300 pounds and he filleted the prehistoric-looking fish after attempting to obtain its weight.

But this much is clear: The gar Crawford landed while bow-fishing recently in Texas' Lake Corpus Christie is among the largest specimens ever captured -- and it was captured in a manner like no other gar captured beforehand.

HOUMA, La. -

A teacher in Terrebonne Parish is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said that Matthew Dardar, 27, is a teacher and a coach at South Terrebonne High School and admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl who attends the school.

SEIU Loses In Supreme Court

I would have thought this is obvious, but apparently it took a Supreme Court decision to say that unions can’t force members to pay for political activity they disagree with:

The Supreme Court today rejected, on First Amendment grounds, the idea that government-employee unions can charge non-members for political activities, even if they refund the money later.

The Court, in an opinion by Justice Samuel Alito, held that employees can be required to pay dues in exchange for the benefits they get from collective bargaining, but can’t be forced to effectively lend money to the union for political activities they disagree with.

New Orleans, LA: Police seek missing 12-year-old girl from NO East – Osvreana Mendoza

NEW ORLEANS - 

Police are looking for a missing 12-year-old girl who was last seen on June 12 in New Orleans East.

Police said they believe Mendoza was picked up at home by an unknown Hispanic man, in his early 20s. Mendoza hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Police said the man and Mendoza may be traveling to St. Louis, Michigan or North Carolina.

Mendoza was described as Hispanic, about 4 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 125 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She has a piercing on her left eyebrow.

Anyone with information is asked to call New Orleans Police Department Juvenile Detective Peggy Brothers at 504-658-5265 or the NOPD’s non-emergency line at 504-821-2222.

HARVEY, LA: Former employee of Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office admits to sexual abuse of juvenile girls

HARVEY, LA (NBC33) — A former employee of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is locked up today. That’s because he admitted to sexually abusing juveniles and taking pictures of them.

John Cerniglia, 59, was arrested for multiple counts of Aggravated Rape, Sexual Battery, and Pornography Involving Juveniles.

The investigation began after the mother of one of the victims reported that her 12-year-old daughter had been exploited. The mother says her daughter admitted to her that Cerniglia had been taking nude photographs of her since she was 5 years old, but stopped when she turned 9.
