Officials are calling this a suspicious fire and are working with Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office to follow up on leads.
WARDVILLE, La. — It turned out to be a hot Thursday night for firefighters when the alarm came in.
An old, abandoned nursing home off Dupree Street near Bayou Marie Road in Wardville caught fire.
At one point, the blaze was so big and smokey, traffic had to be rerouted.
Firefighters were there Thursday night taking care of the hot spots.
No one was hurt. And, so far, no word from headquarters on what might have sparked that blaze.
Firefighters can’t figure out why fires keep sparking in Wardville. There was another one that started around 6:00 on Thursday night.
While nobody was hurt, firefighters say they are still concerned. There have already been several other fires here in the last few weeks. This one was at the end of Dupre Street at the site of an old nursing home. While it was still hooked up to utilities, firefighters don’t know whether anyone was using the complex. The last fire there was just a few weeks ago.
