Fishy fertilizer used to snuff out pot smoking

It might not be the proper venue, but is fish the proper campus smell?

Never mind the smell of fish and ganja.

Vitter presses Jindal on suits

BATON ROUGE (AP) — U.S. Sen. David Vitter called on the Jindal administration Friday for stronger leadership in a dispute between landowners and the oil and gas industry over how cleanup of environmental damage from drilling years ago should be handled.

More than a dozen bills have been filed on the issue of “legacy lawsuits,” with the first measures set for a hearing next week.

The Louisiana Oil and Gas Association claims frivolous lawsuits over cleanup are stifling exploration in the state and killing potential job creation.

Gov. Bobby Jindal’s natural resources secretary, Scott Angelle, has said he’s trying to hammer out a compromise. Vitter said Angelle’s approach has been “pretty one-sided,” supporting trial lawyers who represent landowners and who stand to profit from ongoing litigation.

House panel guts anti-bullying proposal

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – A Baton Rouge lawmaker has pulled her anti-bullying proposal after the House Education Committee gutted it, taking out any reference to the type of activity that would be banned.

The proposal has become an annual flashpoint over the rights of gay students, and both the Jindal administration and the conservative Louisiana Family Forum opposed the bill by Rep. Patricia Smith in its original form.

Smith, a Democrat, proposed to spell out that harassment and intimidation would not be allowed for race, ancestry, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and other items.

Opponents say the list would create favored and protected classes of people.

The committee stripped the list in a 10-5 vote, so Smith shelved the bill.

Jindal Asked To Remove Former Black Panther Prisoners From Isolation

BATON ROUGE, La. — An international human rights organization is calling on Gov. Bobby Jindal to end four decades of solitary confinement for two former Black Panthers convicted of murdering a Louisiana prison guard.Sixty-five-year-old Albert Woodfox and 70-year-old Herman Wallace were serving unrelated sentences for armed robbery in 1972 when they were convicted of fatally stabbing a guard and moved to isolation in the Louisiana State Penitentiary. They have since been moved to “closed cell restriction” in other state jails.Amnesty International delivered a petition to Jindal’s office Tuesday, containing 65,000 signatures from people who call the confinement inhumane. Jindal didn’t seem poised to intervene. His spokesman referred questions to the Corrections Department. Corrections Secretary Jimmy LeBlanc says the men are held separately to protect prison employees, other inmates and visitors.

Committee kills repeal of Louisiana Science Act

BATON ROUGE – An effort to repeal a Louisiana law that allows teachers to introduce alternatives to evolution in science classrooms was rejected in a Senate committee.

Zach Kopplin, a Baton Rouge native who is now a freshman at Rice University, has now twice lost his fight to repeal the Louisiana Science Education Act adopted in 2008. He says the law harms the state’s image and allows the teaching of “pseudo-science.”

His position is supported by 78 Nobel Prize Laureates from around the world who write letters supporting his efforts.
The law, cited nationally as a way to allow the teaching of creationism in classrooms, “requires the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, upon request of a local school board, to allow and assist teachers, principals, and other school administrators to create and foster an environment within public elementary and secondary schools that promotes critical thinking skills, logical analysis, and open and objective discussion of scientific theories being studied including evolution, the origins of life, global warming, and human cloning.”

It’s only fair that both sides get to brain-wash equally.  I mean seriously, students are too dumb to listen to alternatives and make up their own minds.   Students have to be brain-washed in some form or fashion or there is anarchy or something…and stuff.
